Chiropractic Software $0 - $1,000
The chiropractic office software applications featured on this page are very economical. These applications range in cost from free to just under $1,000.00 in price. As you can see, it's still possible to find quality chiropractic software for your office without having to spend a fortune. Unfortunately there are no complete chiropractic practice management systems offered for under $1,000, but many of these applications can still help to improve the efficiency of your chiropractic office and reduce your workload, especially when it comes to taking notes and writing reports. Please keep in mind that as with all software, support or hardware may add to the final cost of these office software applications. The prices of these applications may change at any time and it is recommended that you contact the vendor for accurate pricing.
Most of the software systems featured in this section are designed for portability and note taking. As a result, you may need to invest in a PDA (personal data assistant) if you do not currently own one. PDA's can range in price from $200-$450. Please visit a specific vendor's website for complete details on hardware requirements.
Chiropractic Office Software Reviews
Platinum Plus Software ![]()
Whenever we see the word "Free" mentioned in an offer, we
always approach it with a bit of skepticism and wonder what's the catch?
Last month we reviewed eConnect,
Future Health's latest practice management software. eConnect is being
marketed as "free practice management software." As it turned out, their
free version was a stripped-down version of their complete system which will
end up costing you thousands of dollars.
This month, SOAPe has launched their latest product - SOAPe Platinum Plus software. SOAPe Platinum Plus is being marketed as the chiropractic community's first and only ad-supported practice management software. The concept of ad-supported software is nothing new. There are literally thousands of free ad-supported applications currently being offered by developers for both desktop and mobile platforms. The concept being ad-supported software is that you get the software at no cost in exchange for viewing relevant ads which typically appear as banners within the software's interface. Ad-supported software can be a win-win for both parties involved, hence it's growing popularity.
SOAPe has been providing software to the chiropractic community since 2001. Over the years, their software has grown from a small, sometimes 'buggy' PDA-based application into a complete practice management suite that now includes scheduling, reporting, billing & claims management and paperless office capabilities.
We downloaded the free 14-day trial from their website and installed it to a Windows 7, 64-bit laptop computer. The installation was quick and relatively simple. The software's main interface is logically organized and makes it simple to execute a variety of common tasks with the minimal number of clicks. All modules of the application appear to be tightly integrated. We were pleasantly impressed with the scheduling module which features patient tracking, color coded appointment types with customizable time blocks (a huge time saver), multiple provider capabilities, one-click patient summaries, tracking for missed, no-show and cancelled appointments and automated patient appointment reminders.
SOAPe has also improved upon their previous reporting module with their newly updated reporting wizard. All reports are still point-and-click, and for the most part, customizable. An initial exam took us about 8 minutes to create - a bit longer than the 5 minute claim on their website. The real time savings come after the details of the initial exam have been entered. This is because the software clones or 'pulls' data from the previous visit into the new visit, thus eliminating the need to re-enter the same data repeatedly on subsequent visits. With data cloning technology, SOAP notes and most other reports can be generated in seconds. Keep in mind that this is assuming you are making only minimal changes to a patient's medical record on each visit. SOAPe claims that their software can save the average chiropractor more than 200 hours per year in paperwork. In addition to the standard chiropractic reports, SOAPe Platinum Plus now includes three outcomes assessment reports, all of which are quantifiable and comparable to previous and future evaluations. The software lacks a paper copy of these assessments that doctors can print and hand out to patients. We did encounter two minor 'bugs' while testing the reporting module, none of which would be considered 'show-stoppers'.
As with previous versions of SOAPe, users can scan or import paper documents and images into a patient's electronic medical record (EMR) for paperless office functionality. Keep in mind, you will need to have a scanner to utilize this feature. Patient records can also be securely sent electronically (by email or fax) which saves time and money, and helps to promote a greener planet Earth.
This latest version of SOAPe now includes billing & claims management. We were most impressed with the fact that claims can be auto-generated each time a note or report is created, thus eliminating the need to enter patient charges at the end of the day. According to their website, a note and claim can be generated in under 10 seconds. Claims can be printed out locally or be sent electronically. Electronic claims submission will run you extra. We were told by a member of their sales team that this fee can range from $45-$115 per month depending on what level of service you want. In the grand scheme of things, electronic claims make good sense as postage, paper and ink costs are virtually eliminated, and reimbursement is much quicker. There are several financial reports that can be run at the end of the day, though not as many as some other chiropractic software applications offer. We would like to see them improve upon their billing module in future releases.
Users can download and try the software for 14-days. If you want to continue using the software beyond the trial period, you are required to pay a one-time $125.00 setup and activation fee. This is apparently the only mandatory fee. The actual cost of the software is covered through their advertising network. There are no mandatory support fees and all upgrades are free, as are additional workstations for network users. For those who do require assistance, support and training are offered at a cost of $595.00 per year.
SOAPe Platinum Plus software offers everything you need to run your office more efficiently without the high price tag of other comparable systems costing thousands of dollars. We found this latest release of SOAPe Platinum Plus software to be a nice improvement over previous version. It will be interesting to see if SOAPe can succeed with this new business model, or if they will be forced to return to the traditional retail sales model of the past. Future Health eConnect ![]()
Future Health has recently launched a new product
called eConnect. According to their website, eConnect contains all the
basics required for successful EHR implementation and practice management.
Their selling point is that their 'base' software is offered at no cost to
the user. So what's the catch? That's what we wanted to find out.
As previously stated, they actually do offer their software at no cost, but this applies only to their 'base' software - a barebones, stripped down version of their complete practice management system. If you want a comparable practice management system to what competitors are offering, you will need to purchase several of the add-on applications they offer for an additional fee. In our opinion, their free 'base' software is a way to 'bait' new users, who will ultimately need to purchase several of these add-ons if they want, at the very least, a practice management system that is both efficient and cost effective.
Future Health actually recommends the purchase of at least two of these add-ons which will run you about $590.00. If you want their full scale practice management system complete with all add-ons, it will run you about $6,000.00. In addition to having to buy these add-on modules, users are also required to pay for data storage which will run you about $300.00 per year for 2 gigabytes of data. As your practice grows, so to will your data storage needs. Future Health offers additional data storage for about $95.00 per year per gigabyte. We feel these data storage fees are excessive as their are many online companies offering secure data management with encryption for as little as $60.00 per year for up to 5 gigabytes. The same amount of data storage from Future Health would run you a whopping $685.00 per year! Data storage fees are an obvious source of revenue for this company and must be considered prior to electing to implement a practice management system like eConnect.
At the very least, with the purchase of the two recommended add-ons, your initial cost would be about $890.00 for the first year, with an ongoing charge of at least $300.00 per year for data storage. If you're seeking to qualify for the $44,000 government incentive, and want Future Health's assistance, there is an EHR Certification application you will need to purchase for an additional $2,495.00. In addition to our review, Future Health has received some very poor and concerning reviews from their own clients which have been posted to the Capterra software directory. SOAPe Software ![]()
SOAPe Chiropractic Software is a highly advanced yet
easy to learn and use SOAP note generator
designed exclusively for the Pocket PC. SOAPe allows chiropractors to
create complete and detailed chiropractic SOAPe notes at the point of
care in
a matter of seconds. Notes created using the Pocket PC are transferred to a desktop application
during the syncing process where they can be viewed, edited, printed, faxed or emailed. SOAPe recently underwent a major upgrade in March 2007
and has now to the surprise of many, become a full-scale electronic
medical records (EMR) system. The SOAPe EMR system allows users to convert to a "paperless office" through
the use of a scanner. Both paper documents and x-rays can quickly and
easily be imported and stored in a patient's electronic file. At only
$495.00, SOAPe is the most affordable and feature-rich handheld
chiropractic applications on the market today. In fact, this system
has features found on chiropractic office software systems costing thousands more. If
you're watching your budget or are seeking a highly mobile software
application for your office, we highly recommend giving SOAPe a try. The company is both owned and operated by
a group of practicing chiropractors. The last time we checked, SOAPe software was
still retailing for a very reasonable $495.00. Amazingly, they are the
only company not charging for support and offer unlimited phone support
to all clients. Complete information is
available on their website.

SOAPe
Platinum Software ![]()
SOAPe Platinum software is essentially an upgrade of
the original SOAPe software, but with some significant improvements.
Unlike all prior versions of SOAPe, SOAPe Platinum no longer requires
the use of a PDA and has been updated to function as a standalone PC
application. As a result, users will no longer have to spend the
additional $300 - $450 for a Pocket PC - a welcome improvement. SOAPe
Platinum is not only faster and more powerful than prior versions of
the application (due to the elimination of the PDA), it's much
improved in terms of the features it offers. SOAP Platinum can create
a variety of reports including SOAP Notes, Initial Exams, Progress
Reports and Narrative Reports in as little as a few seconds. Our
testers were able to create a full chiropractic Narrative Report in
about 7 minutes. The software also allows the user to create an array
of Custom Letters and Notes with ease. In addition to its chiropractic
documentation capabilities, SOAPe Platinum also includes an integrated
appointment scheduler (not very powerful), multi-provider support,
paperless office capabilities and secure offsite data storage for a
nominal fee. The total cost of the application runs $595.00 and
includes 30 days free technical support and all software upgrades. A
one year comprehensive support and maintenance plan is priced very
reasonably at $195.00. To learn more about this chiropractic
office software, please visit their website.
